Our guides are general information
Rands per Kilometre publishes general information about car running costs, fuel prices, car insurance, vehicle finance, licensing and buying used cars in South Africa. It doesn't take your circumstances into account. Every guide shows the date we checked our sources, and figures may be out of date by the time you read them.
Not financial advice, and no policy recommendations
Our guides explain how car insurance and vehicle finance work in general. They are not financial advice as defined in the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act, 2002 (FAIS), and we do not recommend any specific insurance policy, insurer, finance product or lender. Premiums, excesses, interest rates and terms depend on your own circumstances and the provider's assessment. Before you buy cover or sign a finance agreement, read the policy wording or agreement in full, and if you need advice, speak to a financial services provider authorised by the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA).
- Example scenarios in our guides are illustrations with stated assumptions. They are not real customers and not a promise of what you will pay.
- Published prices and averages we quote (for example an insurer's own published average premium) are one source's figures on the date checked, not a quote for you.
- Fuel prices change monthly, interest rates change at Reserve Bank meetings, and licence fees change by province. Always check the current figure.
